Clubs with good music in Seattle

Postby red__thread » Sun Mar 07, 2010 10:36 am

I keep forgetting to post this. In August after the Depeche Mode concert in Seattle, Club Noc Noc had a rad afterparty. Apparently they often hold afterparties when goth/industrial/EMB etc. bands play in Seattle. In addition, they have a regular goth night on Wednesdays, burlesque on Thursdays, and sometimes play 80's and goth/industrial on weekends. There's probably more clubs that play good music in Seattle but that's all I know about, would love to hear if there are others for next time I head there.

I've been to NocNoc a few times now (three times) and found it very hit-or-miss. The people are nice. The beer is cheap ($0.25 before midnight). The music can be decent. One of the times I heard nothing but Covenant and new (ugh) Project Pitchfork. Not a horrible night musically, but not great. Another night had two DJs - one played nothing but really generic combichrist-esque industrial and the other played a nice mix of goth rock, EBM, and industrial. The other night was fantastic all around.

There is a better club, Mercury, that is members-only, but if you meet nice people at NocNoc there is a good chance of being invited over to Mercury. Due to the cheap drinks, Mercury members tend to pre-drink at NocNoc and head to the good music and better atmosphere after. If you are social enough, I'd definitely recommend meeting people there and you have a decent chance at being brought to Mercury as a guest (3/3 for me, and I'm not the most socially comfortable person out there). Plus you get to meet awesome people in the process.

There is another night that goes down once a month in memory of an old club that was there, The Vogue. Vogue nights are supposed to be amazing and the people I've met at NocNoc and Mercury have said they are the best night in town. I've never made it to one myself, though. I'm sure you can find the details for where/when they run if you look it up!

That's pretty much my entire knowledge of the Seattle club scene, but I hope people go there and give it a whirl. It's a great place to be!

There is another place that hosts some awesone live acts-El Corazon (SP?) was where me and some friends went and saw the Cruxshadows, I was under the impression that they had alternative night-though not entirely sure...

I went to The Vogue and it was alright, but I think it has been gone for years now. Also it's a ways out of downtown if I recall.

I've had mixed experiences with Noc-Noc too. I've been there on the goth night when they have played both good and terrible music. I don't like how the DJ is literally up on a pedestal hidden away! But I have also been spat at and had a rude bartender try shorting me change on a $50 bill, go figure.

In my experience from the many shows I've been to in Seattle I find the scene a bit snobbish and unfriendly, except for at KMFDM everyone is much nicer. :/
